Why Creating the Best Blog Can Be Like Training for the Olympics

We see them on TV every two years: finely-tuned Olympic athletes attempting to do more than they’ve ever done before.

Years of training and preparation are the obvious foundations for their success, but there are other, more subtle practices that set in motion their trajectory towards victory.

Surviving Teenagers, Holiday Breaks and Other Parenting Madness

Parents are a weird bunch.

First we wish that school will give us a break so that we can get off the parenting madness hamster wheel for a while, then four days into the break we want to pay the school district big money to take our kids back.

The really together parents plan out their kids vacations.

It's like they know they will be driven nuts and will pay any amount of money to other people to keep their kids busy over the holidays.

I am not the smart, or that rich.

My son disappears into his room of video games and the Internet and only comes out to eat and pee. This can be good except by day 4 I am tired of seeing it. He's at that age right before getting a job bit right after needing me for entertainment.

But he does interrupt my day with questions and comments like, "Do we have any jelly?" "Did you open the fridge?" "No." "Then open the fridge."

Do that conversation times a hundred and you'll get why I want him back in school.

Besides, school exhausts the hell out of kids so they fall asleep by 9:30 and if you are a parent then you know our goal every single day is to wear our kids out so they go to sleep as soon as possible after dinner, and we get a moment to hear ourselves breathe... or drink wine.

Spring is just around the corner.

That time of year where we can make them go outside.

It's coming. I promise. In the meantime put everything they eat at the front of the refrigerator.
